CFC Kids

CrossFit Champions Kids Class

Our view for CFC Kids is the same as for CrossFit Champions…to help people of all ages and backgrounds, of all interests and goals, to achieve their true fitness. We believe that for most folks, not being where they want to be is more due to a lack of knowledge than intent. We want to teach kids and their parents how to start their lives from a healthy place, not dictated by a mirror or scale but by being healthy and fit from the inside out. Healthy weight and true fitness will allow a CFC Kids athlete to go beyond our training and succeed in any endeavor they so choose.

We are not specialists. We cannot tweek your curve ball or streamline your butterfly stroke. What we can do is build functional, overall fitness for that ball player or swimmer so that they can avoid repetition injuries and stay in the game or in the water longer. We help your child build the foundation that the rest of their athletic life is built upon.

Our program is a combined effort here at CrossFit Champions and at home with the parents and kids. We teach proper nutrition and proper form. We help all of our athletes improve from no matter what starting point they come to us at or goal they are set on attaining.

The CrossFit Kids program was founded at Brand X Martial Arts in Ramona, CA by Mikki and Jeff Martin. They have laid the foundation that we are building upon. CFC Kids is an outstanding program which will help you and your child lead a healthy life for the rest of your lives.

From CrossFitKids.com:

“CrossFit Kids is the principal strength and conditioning program for many young athletes and the primary P.E. program for many home schools, charter schools. It is used by athletic teams, martial arts schools and many parents that want their kids to grow up healthy, strong and have a life long love of working out thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity.

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Healthy living requires that our kids push, pull, run, throw climb, lift, jump, effectively and safely regardless of whether or not they play athletics. Athletics is a specialized pursuit. Our goal is to support the specialist, but reward the generalist.
The CrossFit Kids program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for 4 year olds and elite high school athletes. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs. The needs of our second graders and our high school wrestler differ by degree not kind.

CrossFit Kids is a minimalist program. It is not expensive, often requires little or no equipment therefore can be used across broad socio economic groups providing an easily accessible cost free resource for Elite Physical Fitness to everyone.

We also publish the CrossFit Kids Magazine designed to support the CrossFit community as a whole as well as teachers, trainers, and parents actively engaged in coaching CrossFit Kids. The CrossFit Kids magazine details the theory, techniques, and practice used by our coaches in our gym, in essence bringing your garage or gym into ours, making you part of our Crossfit Family.”

Our CFC Kids class is 45 minutes long, 3 days per week.  Each workout starts with a standard warm-up that includes jogging, stretching and basic exercise movements.  Each workout is varied in modality.  Weightlifting, body weight movements and cardio are all covered though not necessarily in each workout.  New movements are explained and taught prior to workouts.  Each workout is scaled to the athlete’s abilities and skills.  A cool down follows workouts with stretching finishing up the class.  We discuss basics of anatomy or nutrition during stretching.

Each athlete is expected to keep a journal of their workouts to track progress and growth.  Even repeated workouts should be more difficult than previous efforts as some dynamic should change to push growth…whether weights get heavier, duration gets longer or repetitions increase, each workout will be new in some way.

Most of all, each class is fun.  We have a great group of kids here and want to make sure that exercise is enjoyable no matter where an athlete is currently at in their fitness.
