FAQ
Q. Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?
A. No. Our workouts and exercises scale to any level. We’ve trained everyone from elite level athletes to eighty-five-year-old grandmothers to morbidly obese people, and they’ve all been fine. You will too.
Q. I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?
A. Many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, then to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our instructors are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises, to tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program.
Q. How do I start?
A. Come on down for a free class. If you like, we’ll let you train 1 week free to get a taste of CrossFit workouts and see if CrossFit Champions might be a good fit for you. Of, read How To Join if you’d rather skip the free week and jump right in.
Q. The free class/week was great, how do I join as a member?
A. First you must complete the Elements. Read more about it here.
Q. I’m really fit and would like to join without taking the Elements. Can I do that?
A. No. You must complete the 8 Elements lessons before being allowed to fully join the CrossFit classes.
Q. But what if I’m really, really fit?
A. No means no. If you are really, really fit, we can scale up the workouts in the Elements sessions for you. We promise we can leave you lying on the floor, sore and gasping, after even a beginners’ class.
Q. Will CrossFit make me bulky?
A. Read this helpful article written by a woman who is not bulky.
Q. I’m just visiting Houston, but I’ve been CrossFitting for so long that I do kipping pullups in my sleep. Can I please come to a WOD class?
A. We welcome CrossFitters from all over the world. Please give us some advance warning of your arrival by Contacting Us and we will find a way to work with you.
Q. How much do the Elements Classes cost?
A. 8 1-On-1 sessions for $400.
Q. What do the Elements cover?
A. 9 essential functional human movements (squat, front squat, overhead squat, shoulder press, push press, push jerk, deadlift, sumo-deadlift high-pull and medicine ball clean) and a variety of other movements common to CrossFit training.
Q. Why do Elements lessons cost so much?
A. They don’t.
Q. What if I don’t want to join CrossFit Champions but would prefer to strictly work with one of your trainers 1-On-1?
A. You are more than welcome to do so. Please learn more about our trainers on our Instructors page and Contact Us for more info on how to be matched up with a trainer. Our rates vary from trainer to trainer and there are series discounts available for those looking to train long-term with one of our trainers.
Q. Do you take credit cards, cash, and personal checks?
A. Yes, we accept cash, personal checks, MasterCard, Visa and Discover.
Q. How do I pay for my membership?
A. You can pay for Elements Classes, Bootcamps, 1-On-1 packages and CrossFit Kids classes with cash, check or credit card. All monthly recurring memberships are paid for with EFT or credit card auto-pay.
Q. Can I have a receipt?
A. Yes you can–printed, emailed or both.
Q. How much is a membership?
A. Once you have successfully completed the Elements, you can become a regular member. We charge $150/month for unlimited classes, 7 days a week. See the Fees page for full breakdown of fees for all our Programs.
Q. Do you offer discounted membership to active military, police officers, and firefighters?
A. Yes we do. Anyone who has proof that they fall into one of the above categories qualifies for discounts. Please see the Fees page for full details.
Q. Can I sign up for membership online through your website?
A. No. You can sign up for the Elements sessions at the gym. After completing the Elements, you can also sign up for the CrossFit membership in person at the gym.
Q. Do you sell t-shirts?
A. Of course. Come on down to the gym and get some!
Q. Do you have showers?
A. At this time and in this location we do not.
Q. Can I just come to CrossFit Champions and work out on my own?
A. No. We are more like a martial arts school than a typical commercial gym. We offer classes and 1-On-1 sessions, where people work out under trainer supervision, as it yields better, safer, and faster results than having people simply use the facility by themselves.
