About Us

We are Matt and Pam, a husband and wife team and owners of CrossFit Champions, a licensed CrossFit affiliate located in Spring, TX, the Champions area of NW Houston.  Our combined backgrounds include martial arts, cross-country running, track and field, weightlifting and nutrition.

At CrossFit Champions we train everyone from stay-at-home moms to special forces personnel, from the recreational fitness fanatic to the professional athlete.  As long as you come with the right desire, attitude and fortitude, we want to work with you.  Whether you are new to fitness or are an elite athlete, our CrossFit training programs can get you to the next level!

What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program.  The program is designed to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible.  CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of the ten generally recognized fitness domains: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance and Accuracy.

The CrossFit program was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks.  CrossFit athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple, diverse and randomized physical challenges. The program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience.

Our Objective

At CrossFit Champions, our objective is real-world strength and fitness, not just the appearance of it.  Life depends on health, and longevity depends on fitness.  For some (special forces, LEOs, etc.), fitness can be the difference between life and death.  For others, reaching their ultimate level of strength and fitness is a never ending personal quest.  Whatever the reason, cause, inspiration or need you have for a new level of fitness, we can help you get there.  Besides, real strength and fitness fosters tenacity and self-confidence, which will help you in all the areas of your life.

Attitude

Half the battle in demanding training is attitude.  Every workout should make you nervous on some level.  Gut check time!  What are you really made of?  If you aren’t at least a little scared, then why do it?  Sub-par should not be worth your thought, time or energy.  Approach every workout as if your life depends on completing it (doesn’t it?).  We work hard here and we make you do the same.

Actions

You know the old saying, “Actions speak louder than words?”  No place is this truer than in strength and fitness, especially in a program like CrossFit.  Strength, endurance, stamina and speed cannot be faked.  You can talk all you like about how fit and strong you are, but our workouts will prove or disprove you statements within 10 minutes.  Our bottom line; don’t talk, just do it!

Fitness

There are ten recognized general physical skills.  You are as fit as you are competent in each of these ten skills.  A regimen develops fitness to the extent that it improves each of these ten skills:

  1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance - The ability of body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen.
  2. Stamina - The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store, and utilize energy.
  3. Strength - The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force.
  4. Flexibility - the ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint.
  5. Power - The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply maximum force in minimum time.
  6. Speed - The ability to minimize the time cycle of a repeated movement.
  7. Coordination - The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a singular distinct movement.
  8. Agility - The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.
  9. Balance - The ability to control the placement of the bodies center of gravity in relation to its support base.
  10. Accuracy - The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity.

In addition to our belief in the above, we also prescribe and promote Greg Glassman’s (the founder of CrossFit) World-Class Fitness in 100 Words:

  • Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.
  • Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.
  • Five or six days per week mix these ele-ments in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.
  • Regularly learn and play new sports.

The Program

We are committed to producing real world fitness through functional movements and hard work.  We believe in fitness that is broad, general and inclusive.  Our programs utilize movements from Olympic Weightlifting, gymnastics, martial arts, calisthenics, running and traditional resistance training to produce world-class results.

At CrossFit Champions you will build strength, stamina and power while improving mobility, agility and coordination by using constantly varied functional movements, executed at high intensity.

By adjusting the complexity, intensity, and/or load, we can start you at a level appropriate to your current fitness level and experience.  As you progress, we introduce more challenging exercises to improve coordination, agility and range of motion.  This also keeps the training fun and interesting!
